Fredericksburg Area Museum announces “St. George’s: The Church in the Public Square”
The Fredericksburg Area Museum (FAM) and St. George’s Episcopal Church are excited to announce a new community-curated exhibit, “St. George’s: The Church in the Public Square”, opening April 3rd, 2021. This exhibit will give voice to the history of St. George’s Parish. In celebration of its 300th anniversary, we will highlight not only the history, but also the overarching social philosophies that guide the church. “The FAM has been honored to work with St. George’s parishioners to put on this exhibit,” said Sara Poore, President and CEO. “This type of collaboration and partnership is what the museum strives for. “Our hope with this exhibit is to tell stories about the unique role that St. George’s has had in the public square of Fredericksburg over three centuries” explained the Rev. Joseph H. Hensley, Jr., rector of St. George’s. “There have been times when we have served the community well, and times when we have fallen short. We hope visitors will not only learn about the past but also be inspired to tell the truth and walk in love.” In addition to the museum exhibit, St. George’s is offering history webinars and has an art show for local artists planned.
